Degree Show 2010

Wonderland, 2010

Wonderland, 2009-10 - a series of paintings and drawings made for The Glasgow School of Art Degree Show 2010. It was completed by a piece of creative text detailed in full below.
Picture

Four panes of glass held a situation. There are no bells, there are no calls for alarm. There are however physical pressures from behind, so too from the front. There are also political pressures unkind and blunt.

In search of housing, magical mechanical paperwork map charts aboard a ship belonging to the Empire. Imperial scores bore paving stone and while they were resting I made a window similar to the one in your room.

A raised ledge supported a black root and yet two brown boots were still ready to provide discomfort on the heel.

Step One In Colour, 2009-10
Oil on Canvas (40cm x 60cm).
The first six steps were in black and white, the next four were in colour. Pages, papers, panels and walls were to construct and to decipher information. Combinations of characters met places seen and the people we’ve been tumbled from a tower. If you can believe it digital people flashed text, remembering the many times I sat at a number of tables. I have spoken with several objects about having the space to rattle. Teacups and cosies most often remain cold to sharing seats. Snout fur and patterns flatten blind coverings. I pledged to sanctify eight proofs altering the existence of God.

Equations supported combative methods and mathematical shapes marked colour as bath water fought against other liquids and the battle struck a chord, plucked by wires, manipulated by a master puppeteer.

Faceless warriors relaxed as harmless couriers made repeated attempts to post parcels and packages through slits in a door. Microphones borrowed leather belts and found small empty boxes hired to work, tired and topless. Despite losing hurts, parked bowler hats all wanted green fields. Clear blue skies chose to attack or to defend. Impossible pairs delivered love sparkling socks leaving lessons in song sung to changes in the trees. There are replacements now, replacing me.

Befriend the company of spoken tongues, written in words, typed and bound. Peace has been offered outside tavern signs hung by horses. Pints and pots painted by dots clubbed together in discussion whilst black birds and white birds flew above tall chimneys away over churches. Day and night, tender approaches were made within seven branches carved out against the sky.

Earn to rest easy behind
castle walls,
monsters crawl and slashers fought
to perform.
Rest easy behind castle walls, a
comfortable nest of ashes,
rise
Wonderland.
